Curb Food Cravings

You did really well on making healthy food choices throughout the day.

Then out of nowhere, thoughts of unhealthy foods 'flood" your mind, and a 'strong' urge to eat them kicks in!

How can you curb these food cravings and maintain your health goals? Try these tips.
  • Wait it out. Most cravings go away in under 30 minutes.
  • Take a walk while waiting out food cravings for a boost in endorphins.
  • Evaluate whether you're hungry, tired, or stressed. Tired? Get more sleep. Stressed? Find alternative ways to reduce your stress. Hungry? Read on!
  • Eat protein instead of a sugary treat. Adding more protein to your meals will also keep you feeling full longer and can result in fewer cravings.
  • Don't eat while watching tv. This activity confuses the brain's signal that you've eaten and are satisfied.
  • Drink a full 8oz. cup of water.
  • Consider eating a piece of fruit or a serving of vegetables instead.
  • Eat a smaller portion of the food you crave, as long as you can keep to a single, small serving.
  • Engage in a favorite hobby to distract yourself, if having a small serving causes you to want more.
  • Explore other resources to help you "curb" unhealthy food cravings, and stay on track with your health goals.
