I think today Im going to work on my thigh inductor muscles and do some very light and simple leg V exercises/"butterfly flaps" in corpse position. Stretch my back out as well. Yoga day.
ReplyDeleteWell, this is like playing Whack-a-mole - you never know where I’ll be able to pop up and comment from day to day! Lol!!
ReplyDeleteLove to see your name anywhere, anytime, rosie!
ReplyDeleteI’m commenting on here because I truly need help getting motivated to move again. I’ve been dealing with such a problem with my hip, I haven’t been on the elliptical. (Probably an excuse) then going through a tooth extraction, I’ve been laying low. I so miss going for a regular walk outside, but my knees won’t do it. other than push mowing and my PT stretches I try to do every day, I don’t seem to be moving it like I should !
Oh Cindy, I’m sorry to hear about your hip and knee issues. I’ve had issues with both in the past, too, and my hip flares up from time to time, most often when I’ve been biking because I’m using my hip flexors (the front of the hip when it joins my torso). I wish I had some answers for you. I do try to stretch my flexors every day by kneeling and doing gentle lunges - only to the point of feeling the stretch (I know we’ve talked about this before).
DeleteKnees are bugger, because you can’t really stretch your knee. But you can strengthen your quads to support your knees - are you doing anything to strengthen them? I’m sure your PT has or would have some recommendations and hopefully it’s NOT squats because they’re so hard on the knees.
And I was thinking about you and your 2nd extraction, but couldn’t get on to comment. Hope you’re not in too much pain and that it’s already started to heal!!
And btw, sometimes you just HAVE to lie low until things heal. I know you really want motivation to move, but you must be patient with your body. That’s a huge ask, I know,
DeleteWhat about swimming? Is that an option for you? Or pool walking?? So much easier on the joints. Hang in there, girlie!!
Today is stretch day for everybody! I do some leg and hip stretches every morning in bed and they have made such a difference in hip arthritis. They are ones that were recommended by AARP a long time ago. Don’t know if still accessible online. Hubby getting brain mri this morning for aneurysm check up. I told him he uses “I’ve had brain surgery “ excuse too often! Whack Rosie! Where will you emerge next?
ReplyDeleteKathy, I don’t blame your husband - I’d milk that excuse until the cows come home! (Which may not be a long time if you’re anything like Ella’s cows!) Best wishes for his mri check up!!!
DeleteWhack- a-mole 😂 watch out Rosie I have pocket full of quarters
ReplyDeleteLMFAO Ella! Pocket full of quarters…omg, SO friggin’ funny!! Now I’m pantless, Farty, and and getting whacked on the head!
DeleteHow are you feeling today?? I’m truly hoping you’re feeling a ton better!
Kathy I use the I had brain surgery excuse all time My husband even got me a shirt that says I had brain surgery what's your excuse 😂 He's a warrior wishing him best results today & pass a hug on from me please.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rosie feeling crummy but my spirits are great and mentally in a wonderful place so it all evens out 🙃 I'm gonna work on some recipes today to add to the blog of I can stay awake long enough lol
ReplyDeleteJust don’t push yourself too much ella - we can all wait for your wonderful recipes!! Xo
DeleteLOL! Next time I go to an arcade I will try not to picture a parsley crown and cabbage cape popping up!!
ReplyDeleteI havent done any yoga yet but have still been productive. Im just soaking in some sun rn. I managed to lose 6 lbs since yesterday thanks to modern medicine helping all the body functions lol!
LMAO bean!! Instead of hearing a “whack” when you hit me with your mallet, you’ll hear a fart!!
DeleteGood morning!
ReplyDeleteCindy. I can relate to your knee pain. I fell and tore ligaments in my left leg, and dislocated my kneecap in 2012. It has never fully recovered. For 6 mos, I couldn't "bend" my leg more than a few inches, and quite painfully at that. I still "limp" some while walking. I can bend my leg 75% of the way, and will take it! Much better than a few inches. I do still have days my leg is very stiff and painful so I do this seated chair exercise, (learned from PT specialist,) to alleviate the pain and strengthen my leg-bending ability. Sit comfortably in a chair, keep your back straight, feet flat on the floor. Starting with your left leg, lift your leg as high as it feels comfortable to do, BUT, not higher than your hips! Return your left foot to the floor, and repeat the exercise 10 times. Then do the same exercise 10 times with your right leg. As you build flexibility and strength, you can increase the number of "seated, leg-lifts" per leg. I couldn't believe how well it worked for me and I can now also do this while standing, holding onto the counter. I thought I would share what has helped me.
That’s a good one, Julie - I’m going to add the standing one to my routine! Speaking of which - off to the gym! Yeah, it’s my basement, but still, if nothing else, it’s a short commute and there’s no membership fee! Lol.
DeleteLmao Rose! Bonus points to you for making me laugh while committing to moving your body in a deliberate way in, Rose's basement gym, no pants worn, no membership fees!
ReplyDeleteOh, and did I mention the fact that while I’m loading up for the next crazy bus trip, you don’t have to worry about any…”gas leakage” at my gym either! Lol.
ReplyDeleteJulie, I did a whole set (6) of standing leg raises (30 reps each) per your suggestion for my hip flexors (not so much knees) and then my lunge stretches and I’ve gotta say - it feels BETTER!
So Cindy, give it a try, I hope they work for you, too!!!
Thank you for letting mr know your expetience Rose. I didn't believe the PT guy when he suggested it to me. But, after that first day of just 10 lifts per leg, I was able to walk, sit/stand-up, without as much pain. Now, on good days, I do 50 lifts per leg, (25-seated, 25-standing.) On days my left knee is feeling stiff and aching, I revert back to 10 leg lifts per leg, (seated or standing, depending on how I feel. ) I may also repeat the 10 lifts a few times with plenty of rest between to "grease" those 'old' joints. Lol! Oh, check out the easy workout posted in Body Matters: Quick Tip, if you haven't already.:-)
ReplyDeleteHey Julie, I did just look at that video. It would be a great starter work out for sure! For me personally, it’s a little too “fundamental”. I usually work out with 10 or 12 pound free weights and do more strengthening sets and reps than this bryant suggests.
DeleteBut, as I said for those starting out it would great or for those who may have some mobility issues - using a pillow on the floor as he suggested would be great for those who may not be able to kneel.
Thanks for posting it!!
You're most welcome! Thank you Rose, for continuing on this ride! I'm trying my best to make it an enjoyable experience for everyone!
DeleteI'm grateful for your 'huge,' contribution of Rose's Short & Sweets, and commenting in all the segments you're able to:-)
Oh Julie, you make me laugh. My “huge” contribution? No. It’s not like I'm giving you a kidney or something. Lol.
DeleteYou’re doing a wonderful and admirable job, rest assured!!
Btw, I read about your lunch/dinner out the other night and tried to comment, but couldn’t. It sounded really good and I wondered if it was the same restaurant you had been to before. I seem to recall it was Italian, too.
And another btw: if you haven’t already, I would encourage you to add Blog Designer to your CV. You may think I’m kidding, but I’m not. Putting this together demonstrates a lot of initiative, creativity, knowledge and problem solving and communication skills.
DeleteYes, same Italian restaurant next town over and the same, "friend." I had the other half of my meal today for lunch. I added a mini-chocolate lava cake for dessert. I got the mini's at Aldi's today and they come in a package of 2. I immediately put the 2nd. one in the freezer. So yummy!
DeleteThanks too, for the kudos on my creative madness! Lol!
DeleteHmmm…me thinks there is a mystery man in someone’s life!!
Delete😎 I'm not saying as we're just 'friends," for now.
DeleteBest way to start anything julie! Or end anything for that matter. All I’ll say is: he’s a lucky dude!
DeleteWhy the h-e-double hockey sticks, can't "comments," have an auto spell checker! I need it for sure!
ReplyDeleteNow that’s total FREEdom workout rosie!! Thanks all for the great advice and encouragement. I will move as and when I can. Home now with my sick grandboy 😔
ReplyDeleteCindy I hope your "Grandboy," gets to feeling better soon!
ReplyDeleteAwe thanks! I’m sure it’s just a little flu bug ,but I hope none of us get it!. So Rosie has me all excited about hearing of a possible “friend” for you, Julie.!
DeleteHe is just a regular friend. We enjoy hanging out every so often. We've eaten 4 meals together. 2 at a restaurant, 1 when he brought me a chicken sandwhich from BK, and 1 when I made taco-seasoned chickpeas and we had lunch at the park. I wanted to explore more of that park and had brought everything to make soft tacos in a cooler and invited him to join me. There's teally nothing more to it, despite, Roae, trying to marry me off or something. Lol!
